Pupil Achievement and Assessment

All schools are expected to use a range of data to make judgements about the effectiveness of teaching and learning and other aspects of school life in order to celebrate success and identify priorities for improvement. The benefit of this to special schools is considerable and data analysis at Perseid is a key part of our Assessment for Learning processes.

As a special school for pupils with severe and profound learning difficulties where cohorts are comparatively small and pupils' achievements are outside national norms, data analysis is at a relatively early stage by nature of the national issue.  The school uses the EQUALS PACE 2 Assessment Target Setting for English, Maths and Science. 

Our rigorous target-setting and assessment processes ensure that pupil's achievements are outstanding, facilitated by teachers' high level of expertise. Our use of CASPA                                   (a database designed by Hampshire LA for pupils with significant special needs) and the DfE's National Progression Guidance (NPG) for benchmarking purposes ensures our aspirational targets have a national correlation.
