Learning Beyond the Classroom fundraising appeal

We need your help!

The Friends of Perseid School (FOPS) would like to invite you to support our major fundraising campaign. Your help and support will provide life-enhancing benefits for our pupils who have long term complex learning disabilities and healthcare needs.

Aim

The charity, set up since 1988, aims to raise funds to provide ‘extras’ for pupils, outside the school’s statutory responsibility. This includes outings, pieces of equipment and extra-curricular activities.

This funding enables educational, communication, sensory, fun and life-enhancing facilities to become a reality. We have successfully delivered several major appeals including raising funds to build a Hydrotherapy Pool at our Lower School campus; a creative sensory and life-enhancing adventurous activities area for the Upper School campus, including a Camp-Out Area.

To support our pupils’ learning beyond the classroom we are raising funds for:

1. Growing Garden

Outdoor garden for pupils to grow produce at our Upper School campus.

 2. Early Years and Primary Play Areas

Outdoor equipment for our playground at the Lower School campus for our nursery and primary-aged children.

 3. Soft Play Equipment

To equip our soft play rooms on both school campuses.

What has been achieved

Phase one was achieved in July 2013 and our pupils have been thoroughly enjoying their growing garden, which provides them with amazing opportunities to watch life grow, work together as a team and communicate in a hands-on learning environment.

Special thank you to the Rotary Club of Morden, Leivers Trust, Marian Esling Legacy and the Friends Of Perseid who helped to make the growing garden possible.

Phase two has now been achieved and we hope to commence work on the Lower School playground in the Spring Term, with the aim to see our pupils enjoying outdoor learning before the end of the academic year.

We would like to thank The Wolfson Foundation and Garfield Weston Foundation who both donated large sums to support our school in creating life-enhancing opportunities for our pupils. We would also like to thank the many generous donors who have help us achieve our goal; The Taylor Family Fund, Embassy of Man, Baily Thomas Charity, Albert Hunt Fund, Marian Esling Legacy, Leivers Trust, Leathersellers Charity and the Freemasons of Romford Essex.

Last phase

We are now raising funds to complete the last phase of our Learning Beyond the Classroom Appeal. We require an additional £50,000 for two soft play rooms for each of our campuses and an Early years courtyard play area.
