Perseid School

Pupil Experience

Enrichment is a key element of the pupil experience at Perseid School; offering pupils the chance to get involved in something new, explore their passions and develop new skills.

The diversity of our school is a strength and we celebrate the strong links we have forged with the community, organisations and with our partners in the local, national and international community, that allow us to provide these exciting prospects for our pupils.

Pets as Therapy

Pets as Therapy (PAT) is an approach where animals are utilised to calmly promote positive wellbeing across a range of settings. At Perseid, this previously included pupils taking the dogs for walks in the grounds, caring for them, reading stories and talking to them. This initiative supports communication, language, social/emotional development and well-being and we are already seeing positive impacts. Our existing animal based provision includes our resident Lower School pet rabbits Comet and Star and KS3 horse-riding lessons at Diamond Riding Centre.

Merton Music Foundation

Pupils across Perseid School have benefitted from many exciting projects through our partnership with Merton Music Foundation. This includes mini music makers and two residencies with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and our involvement in the Music is for Life concerts which take place bi-annually.

The Panathlon Challenge

The Panathlon Challenge is a national charity which provides competitive sporting opportunities for young people with disabilities; including multi-sport events, swimming, football and boccia. The opportunity allows our pupils to participate in a range of sporting events and compete against other pupils across London, with the opportunity to use Olympic stadium facilities.

Perseid School pupils have been participating in Panathlon sporting events many years and we aware of the positive impact it has had on their lives, most importantly the opportunity to take part in exciting activities, learn new skills and meet other pupils with SEN from across the borough.

Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme

Pupils in Sixth Form are encouraged to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award; a personal achievement award and scheme that inspires pupils to reach out of their comfort zone in a range of different experiences. To achieve the Bronze Level Award, pupils are required to participate in volunteering activities within the local community, physical activity and embark on an expedition and the scheme culminates with an award ceremony for all pupils involved.

Horse Riding

As part of the KS3 PE curriculum, pupils participate in weekly horse-riding lessons at the Diamond Riding Centre. Perseid School has been using the Diamond Riding Centre for over 20 years, for weekly 30 minute sessions. Pupils work towards Grade 1 Certificates which involves first exposure to horses and learning to take care of them to support and more independent riding.

Swimming

Pupils enjoy weekly swimming lessons from EYFS through to the end of KS3 in one of our onsite hydrotherapy pools, led by a qualified swimming instructor. In KS4 & Sixth Form, for whom it is appropriate, lessons move to the Morden Park Pools.
