Communication is central to our approach and key to our provision at Perseid, in order to support the development of students’ communication skills.
Augmentative communication strategies including PECS, Intensive Interaction, PODD and Signalong are complemented by alternative communication systems, such as iPads and eye gaze technology, to meet individual needs.
Behaviour support programmes are used when applicable; the school works alongside the PROACT SCIPrUK framework to ensure high standards across the board. This programme is accredited by the British Institute of Learning Disabilities and focuses on positive approaches and proactive responses to behavioural support needs.
Staff use effective communication strategies that are modelled consistently across the school.
The methods used take account of different abilities and levels of understanding, and pupils are supported to communicate in the best way for them.
