Arts at Perseid

The Creative Arts supports all pupils to develop their skills in drama, dance, art and music. The Arts are taught both as a separate subject, and used as a teaching method in other subjects areas. The curriculum ensures that pupils have access to a broad and diverse culture.

We believe that the Arts are essential for promoting positive emotional and physical well-being. Learning through drama, dance, art and music supports pupils to make meaningful links to real life experiences, form strong memories, develop a sense of self and allows them to experiment with being creative and independent within a safe space.

The art foci this term are:

  • Upper School Arts Week: The Arts Lead and a working party are planning the art activities for the week. The theme this year is 'The world of Arts' celebrating cultural diversity.   The week will run from 30th June to 4th July. Classes will explore a country and its culture, before sharing these activities across the Upper school classes at the end of the week. We hope there will be opportunities to involve parents, carers and families to share an Arts or cultural activity or story..
  • KS4 Arts Exhibition: showcasing the excellent Key Stage 4 artwork across the year; it will be held at Perseid Upper school during Arts Week. A private view of the exhibition will take place at the start of the exhibition with families, carers and invited guests attending on Monday 30th June
  • KS4 Drama production: 'Aladdin' A performance of ‘Aladdin’ took place on 21st May 2025 to an audience of parents and other guests.
  • Individual Instrument teaching: Some pupils have continued to take part in Individual weekly instrument teaching, for example, learning the piano.
  • Upper School Choir: school choir continues to run on a weekly basis
  • Step into Dance: This year, all four Key Stage 3 classes have had access to a consistent Royal Academy of Dance [RAD] trained practitioner to deliver STEP into Dance lessons; our current practitioner used to be a dance teacher in a SEN/D school so has been experienced in adapting her lessons to meet the different needs of our pupils. Some classes have focused more on body awareness and responding to sensory stimuli whereas other classes have learned choreographed sequences
  • Step into Dance Festival: On Friday the 9th of May, a group of performers from Key Stage 3 are going to RAD headquarters to perform 'Dance the Night', a fun disco-inspired piece with the music made famous from the recent Barbie movie, at their STEP into Dance Festival [a sharing opportunities with other schools and parents/carers]
  • Upper school Yoga: With some of the sessions that were rearranged from the Autumn Term we have been able to book the RAD practitioner to run some weekly yoga sessions for 6th Form and put on additional dance lessons during Sports Week and Arts Week to include the wider school (KS4 and 6th Form).
  • Polka Theatre: Pupils in Purple Pathway had the opportunity to visit the theatre to watch 'The Pea and the Princess', whilst Orange pathway went to watch 'Chicken Licken'. Pupils seemed to be very engaged by the performances, with lots of laughs during the shows! EYFS Ladybird Department are visiting this week and next week, to watch 'Let's build', which is an immersive theatre performance aimed at the Early Years Foundation Stage, whilst KS1 green pathway are looking forward to watching 'I want my hat back', later in the term!
  • Image Musical Theatre Lower school will also be welcoming Image Musical Theatre in July, for a visiting performance of The Jungle Book! It is very exciting as pupils will be able to participate in a workshop as part of the show!
