Book Week at Lower School

This year, Lower School Book Week was focused on the stories of Julia Donaldson.

Throughout the week, pupils engaged in an array of creative, exciting and sensory themed activities, all of which took inspiration from Julia Donaldson’s collection of books.

Turtle Class read ‘The Snail and the Whale’ and went outside to investigate what different things a snail can use as a shell, and what these looked and felt like. Yellow Pathway got busy making paper plate whale crafts, using their hands to spread the paint as they listened to the story. Orange Pathway enjoyed a Gruffalo sensory story, led by the Speech and Language therapist and a Write Dance session which linked to all of Julia Donaldson’s stories. Take a look below at all the fun they had!

Elephant Class thoroughly enjoyed exploration of ‘Room on the Broom’ as they created handprint broomsticks, enjoyed sensory activities and cooked up delicious monkey biscuits as part of their ‘Monkey Puzzle’ focus. Giraffe Class loved creative activities such as making a snake log pile inspired by ‘The Gruffalo’ and a jungle tuff tray in their ‘Monkey Puzzle’ adventure.

Tina, Fiona and Liane enjoyed reading Julia Donaldson stories in end of day assembles and the week culminated in Cinema and Dress Up Day, with pupils and staff dressed as book characters; we were really impressed with the efforts made! Book Week is an important school event, allowing pupils to fully immerse themselves in the stories through carefully planned imaginative lessons. and transformed, which puts into practise the efforts we make in creative learning.

We would like to thank all staff for their endless dedication in providing excellent learning experiences for the pupils, most especially to Book Week 2021 lead KS1 teacher Daria and the Book Week 2021 team!
