Lower Curriculum Highlights Spring Term
EYFS: Summer Term: Zoom, Zoom, Zoom
The children in the Ladybird Department have been really enjoying the ‘Zoom, Zoom, Zoom’ topic this term. They have been enjoying lots of transport themed play, with cars, trains and airplanes featuring frequently! The children have been doing lots of transport themed artwork, with trains making paint tracks and lots of roads being drawn. The pupils have been learning lots of new language related to transport, and many have learnt some key language relating to speedy cars ‘crash[ing]’ and going very ‘fast’.
The children have really enjoyed lots of outdoor play during the first weeks of the summer term and have enjoyed exploring sand and water frequently. In the sandpit they have been making sand cakes, pizzas and pancakes alongside their peers. When playing with water the pupils have been exploring floating and sinking, particularly enjoying play with the boats and guttering!
Key Stage 1: Creative curriculum
Summer 1: Under the Sea
Pupils will learn about sea creatures and their habitats by responding to a variety of sensory
experiences linked to the underwater habitat, e.g. water , sand or seaweed tray.
Pupils will have the opportunity to visit the London Aquarium and use first hand experience
to identify familiar sea creatures.
Summer 2: Read me a Story
Pupils will enjoy learning about animals and humans through a range of fairy tales, this will
enable them to begin to make sense of themselves, others and the environment.
Lower Key Stage 2: Creative curriculum
Summer 1: Superheroes
Pupils will explore a range of curriculum areas to develop their understanding of the human
body, strong and weak materials to design a superhero vehicle and use digital sources to gain
information about a preferred superhero.
Summer 2: Oh I do like to be beside the seaside
Pupils will have the opportunity to visit the seaside and experience the different sights,
sounds and smells of the sea as well as exploring a range of sensory materials e.g. shells,
sand, pebbles and chalk. They will create artwork, music and fact files as part of their
learning.
