Online Safety and PSHE

Online Safety @ Upper School

Staff ensure pupils follow the ‘Keeping Safe Online’ posters displayed around the school, with all staff adhering to this guidance too. School computers are equipped with website filters, and teachers and support staff closely supervise pupils’ online activity to ensure they are accessing safe, appropriate and only meaningful websites that have been reviewed by teachers prior to the learning session. When computers are used for leisure activities, an adult is always present to offer support and supervision. Staff know to report any websites which we do not deem appropriate.  Additionally, all staff are expected to close computers when not in use to maintain safety.

A designated playlist has also been created for play to ensure that only appropriate music is played, avoiding exposure to unsuitable language.

PSHE

Lower School

At lower school pupils have been developing their understanding of the world they live in, including understanding values and how they help us at home and school. They have been developing their knowledge of what a healthy lifestyle looks like and the difference between a friendship and relationship. PSHE is taught alongside the children's rights which are revisited each day in assembly.

The NSPCC Speak Up, Stay Safe campaign is coming in during the second half of the summer term to lead an assembly. This is always a fun and interactive way to raise awareness for children about how they can use their voice to keep themselves and others safe.

Upper School

Key Stage 4

Pupils will be focused on  self-care, personal safety and seeking support. They also explored the NSPCC’s Speak Out, Stay Safe programme, learning how to recognise unsafe situations and how to ask for help when needed. Alongside this, pupils worked towards accreditation in Dealing with Problems in Daily Life, developing key skills for managing challenges they may encounter.

Explicit RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) sessions were delivered to support pupil understanding of healthy relationships, consent, appropriate information sharing, personal boundaries and strategies for staying safe at school, at home, and within the wider community. Pupils also identified trusted adults and support networks they can turn to for help.

6th Form

Pupils focused on developing an understanding of healthy lifestyles, exploring the impact of food, exercise, and personal choices on their overall wellbeing. They learnt about the various factors that influence food choices and developed skills in planning and preparing healthy, balanced meals with some pupils visiting local shops and supermarkets. Pupils explored the importance of maintaining good physical and mental health and identified sources of advice and support available to them.
