Perseid School

Perseid Multi-Sport Secondary Panathlon

In an exciting event that marked the beginning of 2020 and the start of a fresh term, Upper School pupils participated in the Multi-Sport Panathlon competition.

The Panathlon Challenge runs ‘mini Paralympic’ multi-sport events, providing the opportunity for competitive sport to thousands of disabled young people every year.

These include specific programmes aimed at different age groups, impairment groups or sporting classifications.

Panathlon operates a standard model and is open to young people with a range of physical impairments, including deaf, hearing impaired and visually impaired children, as well as those with severe and complex learning difficulties.

A regular multi-sport competition sees four teams compete over six rounds, featuring the following sports:

*  Boccia
*  Polybat (pictured, left)
*  Table cricket
*  New age kurling

*  Athletics field events: javelin (pictured, above), long jump, wheelchair slalom & precision beanbag throw

* Athletics races: wheelchair manual and powered, lower leg impairment and ambulant.

We joined with Cricket Green School to form the Merton Team and were awarded 3rd Place in the competition. Well done to all of our competitors for your excellent skill and sportsmanship!
