Perseid School

Rights Respecting Award - Silver!

We are thrilled to tell you that we have recently been awarded the second stage of UNICEF's UK Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA), Silver: Rights Aware.

As part of our ongoing work to become recognised as a Rights Respecting School, we have informed the whole school community about this valuable programme through staff meetings and school assemblies at Lower and Upper School. We have an active UNICEF Rights Respecting School Steering Group, who meet regularly with our School Council, Senior Leadership Team and Governing Board to ensure that the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) underpin our values and decision making in school, that the whole school learns about programme and are empowered to become active learners on this subject. We are fully committed to embedding the UNICEF Rights of the Child into our school community.

It is with great pleasure that we announce we have achieved the Silver certificate: Rights Aware. This attainment of this certificate means that across Perseid School, there is evidence that we are promoting knowledge and understanding throughout the school community, we are seeing the positive impacts of these on our young learners, staff and throughout the environment and that all pupils are beginning to see themselves as rights respecting global citizens and advocates for fairness and childrens rights, both locally and globally.

The next step in our Rights Respecting journey is to work towards Gold – to build upon what we have achieved and further embed the child rights in the school so that the values and principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child are fully rooted into the whole school's practice.

We use the curriculum, focus days, artwork/displays and assemblies to teach the importance of the rights of the child, allowing our pupils to make decisions that impact them and those around them, modelling respectful attitudes and language and developing our pupils to be ambassadors for the rights of others.

We are always striving to create the best learning environment for our pupils, and this achievement demonstrates our commitment to promoting, realising and educating on children's rights, and encouraging every member of our community to respect the rights of others. We look forward to working towards achieving the Gold Award, and celebrating the Silver Award when we receive the certificate!
