Summer Term Report: Curriculum
EYFS
The topic in the Ladybird department this term is 'Once Upon A Time'. Key texts during the summer term are 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears' and 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. The children have really enjoyed a Goldilocks sensory story during Literacy - with lots of animated participation from the children. Some of the children have been able to join in with key actions from the story and even some of the repeated refrains.
During our continuous provision the children have been enjoying exploring capacity with small, medium and large bowls and spoons to explore with different 'porridge' oats. They have also been enjoying mixing colours to create their own bears - with the primary colours mixed together to create lots of brown bears by many of the children. The children have been choosing to spend lots of time exploring outside so far this term - with sand and water play being the activity of choice for many children. During this play the children have been working on the prime areas of learning - with a focus on playing alongside others, developing their communication skills and working on their physical development. In addition, the children have been challenging themselves to develop their climbing skills through use of our large climbing frame and moveable, low level resources such as our climbing crates. It has been wonderful to see the children developing their confidence with their own climbing and showing an interest in the climbing being undertaken by their peers. The Tapestry app will be implemented in Early years this term. Tapestry is an easy-to-use and secure online learning journal helping staff and families celebrate their children’s learning and development. Tapestry builds a record of a child’s experiences, development and learning journey through their early years and primary education. Using photos, videos, and diary entries, a teacher or early years educator, along with the child’s parents or carers, share the story of the child and how they are growing and developing.
