Summer Term Report: Pupil Voice

Pupil Voice is a priority at Perseid and it is elicited in a number of ways to allow all pupils to express their needs and wants. All pupils are given the opportunity to express themselves using their preferred communication method and all voices and views are valued.

The benefit is that pupils are supported to develop their social and communication skills, pupils are heard and as a result their self-esteem and lived school experiences are improved which research suggests holds a direct link to improved long term outcomes.

Lower School: Children’s Parliament

We have been attending Merton Children’s Parliament to meet with other schools and discuss ways in which Merton can be made more accessible, focusing particularly on green spaces, such as parks, and transport links.

We named the sensory rooms via a School Parliament vote, chose how we would celebrate and raise money for Red Nose Day and met with Katelyn Farrenson from UNICEF for our RRS Gold Award and the pupils represented the school brilliantly 11 . Lower School also took part in the safeguarding audit with Ian McGraw and helped Foteini to choose new posters for display at Lower School.

Upper: School Parliament

The School Parliament attended the SEND Youth Advisory Meeting (Civic Centre) on 7th May 2024 The meeting focused on three main items: Our updated EHCP feedback forms (sharing this with the group following their feedback in November), our new communication toolkit for young people with SEN and working together to create a ‘rights and entitlements’ workshop.

School Parliament also had two further meetings this term to reflect on Summer term events, think ahead to Autumn term and plan a School Parliament trip to celebrate and reward the positive impact they have made this year.
