Perseid School

Upper School Careers Week

At Perseid School, we are dedicated to providing every pupil with the highest quality careers education, which is pupil-centric, raises aspirations for life, encourages independence, builds confidence and empowers all pupils to plan and prepare for adulthood. Our personalised approach to careers education aims to inspire the potential of every pupil and support every individual to discover their best next step.

Careers education is embedded within the curriculum at Upper School and this engaging and aspirational curriculum is complemented by a consideration of the interests, skills and qualities our pupils already possess, and the ones they need most help in developing.

National Careers Week ran from Monday 4th – Friday 8th March, and the initiative aims to help pupils and students across the country become more aware of career options, make them excited about the future and help to support them make career decisions.

At Perseid Upper School, pupils took part in an array of exciting experiences and insightful opportunities, including:

  • Pupils developed their understanding of how to keep safe in the community when using public transport, which is vital as they prepare for adulthood. The workshop was led and delivered by Transport for London.
  • In a visit to Orchard Hill College, pupils learnt more about what learning opportunities are available to them at college, and they began to think about their best next step.
  • All pupils had personal guidance interviews with a dedicated careers advisor, to receive advice, discuss aspirations and set goals for the future.
  • Sixth Form students organised a Spring Market, to utilise existing, and develop new essential skills in a real-life enterprise experience.
  • Using the Skills Builder Project outline, pupils developed essential skills such as listening, speaking, leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, creativity, stating positive and aiming high, as they learnt what it is like to work as a baker!
  • In sessions that aimed to prepare pupils for adulthood, pupils gave thought to their aspirations with regards to health, independent living, further education, employment and participation in the community.

The week culminated in an alumni event, which welcomed back Perseid School alumni to share their career journey with current pupils, inspire them and support them in identifying their next steps. Overall the week was a fantastic success, filled with aspirational thinking, thoughtful conversations and incredible new experiences!
