Wishing Tina Harvey the Very Best
Tina joined what was then St Ann’s School in 1993 as Deputy Headteacher, bringing with her teaching and leadership experience in SEN schools in the London boroughs of Southwark and Hillingdon.
Just six weeks into her new position, Tina was catapulted into the role of Headteacher. For Tina, working in in the specialist education field of SEN was a calling. Tina studied Special Education Needs at the University of Birmingham, returning to the same university to study for her Masters in SEN later in her career.
Tina has always remained passionate about providing pupils with SEN the best possible education, both in and beyond the classroom. In 2011 Perseid School was born with the opening of the newly built Upper School site. The school’s new name reflected, and continues to reflect, the shared vision of a forward-thinking, innovative specialist school, trail blazing outstanding holistic learning.
When asked what makes her most proud of the school, she simply states that it is, the children. Tina explains that what she means by this is the pupils’ individual achievements, milestones and development. Everything at the school is designed to benefit the pupils and Tina is passionate about securing the very best outcomes always.
Over the 30 years Tina worked at Perseid, the school has achieved many notable awards and accreditations. Tina pays tribute to the achievements of senior leaders, teachers, support staff, governors and wider school partners who have shown such commitment to the delivery of the school’s vision and place the children at the heart of everything. Perseid School is now a centre of excellence where the highest standards are expected, exceptional experiences are offered, creativity and innovation are interwoven throughout, and pupils are happy.
In June 2023, Tina was named in the King’s Honours List, being awarded an OBE for services to Special Education. All at Perseid School know that Tina is a highly worthy recipient of this national honour and on behalf of all, we congratulate her on her achievement.
“The last 30 years as Headteacher of Perseid School has been an immense privilege. Every day has been varied and vibrant. Our professional and creative community, of staff, governors, external agencies and partners have worked hard to instil a culture of celebration, success, the highest of expectations and excellence in all that we do. I have loved getting to know and working in partnership with our families, witnessing pupils grow into confident young adults and wish them well on their next chapters. My career here has been more than that, it has been incredibly gratifying, and I am entirely confident that the school will continue on the fantastic journey and success it has enjoyed for many years’.
