Tuesday 1 July 2025 Matisse and Calder Camp Out To celebrate the end of the school year, Matisse and Calder Class enjoyed our annual Camp Out experience. Pupils have enjoyed and benefitted from setting up the camp area, preparing burgers and hotdogs for a BBQ, camp songs, playing with friends and cooling down with fruit and ice lollies!During camp day experiences, pupils showed us lovely developments in their communication, independence and awareness of safety (particularly around fire). A fantastic experience for all involved and a highly anticipated event in our annual calendar!

Tuesday 24 June 2025 Sports Day We had a hugely successful Sports Day across both Lower and Upper School on Wednesday, 18th June. Despite an early finish due to the high temperatures, the day was filled with energy, excitement, and smiles all around!It was so nice to see the mugga field and scooter park, field with the colour houses tshirts. From bowling and curling to basketball, football, and athletics, our pupils gave it their all while having so much fun. It was fantastic to see such great sportsmanship, teamwork, and enthusiasm throughout the day.A big thank you to all the parents who came along to cheer and celebrate the achievements of our incredible pupils — your support made the day even more special! #LifeAtPerseid

Monday 23 June 2025 Lower Curriculum Highlights Spring Term The children in the Ladybird Department have been really enjoying the ‘Zoom, Zoom, Zoom’ topic this term. They have been enjoying lots of transport themed play, with cars, trains and airplanes featuring frequently! The children have been doing lots of transport themed artwork, with trains making paint tracks and lots of roads being drawn. The pupils have been learning lots of new language related to transport, and many have learnt some key language relating to speedy cars ‘crash[ing]’ and going very ‘fast’.

Friday 20 June 2025 Sports @ Perseid Lower School have our annual St Helier Cluster Sports Day on Friday 20th June. This event will be hosted by us and taking place at Upper School. In addition, Merton School Sports Partnership continues to come in once a week to support with PE lessons across lower school.

Thursday 19 June 2025 Orange Pathway Shines During Sports Week! 🧡🏅 Orange Pathway has been actively participating in Sports Week, diving into a variety of sport-related books. Today, they read "When I Grow Up: Sports Heroes", which features inspiring stories about Usain Bolt, LeBron James, Simone Biles, and Ellie Simmonds.Pupils focused on Ellie Simmonds and her incredible achievements — especially her remarkable success at just 13 years old! Her story truly inspired everyone and sparked some wonderful discussions.Well done, Orange Pathway! 👏

Monday 16 June 2025 Link Visits from Mainstream Peers Student volunteers from local mainstream schools join various classes on a weekly basis. They have various responsibilities from mentoring a Perseid learner to general classroom support. They bring a positive peer influence, leading to improved social skills, increased self esteem and broadening the breadth of experience of Perseid the pupils. This term, students are volunteering from King's College, Ursuline and Wimbledon High.

Friday 13 June 2025 Pupil Voice Pupil Voice is a priority at Perseid and it is elicited in a number of ways to allow all pupils to express their needs and wants. All pupils are given the opportunity to express themselves using their preferred communication method and all voices and views are valued. The benefit is that pupils are supported to develop their social and communication skills, pupils are heard and as a result their self-esteem and lived school experiences are improved which research suggests holds a direct link to improved long term outcomes.

Wednesday 11 June 2025 Outdoor Learning and Citizenship Outdoor learning is a key part of the school curriculum. Outdoor learning is proven to be beneficial to pupil wellbeing and readiness to learn, improving their overall quality of life and school experience. Outdoor learning at Perseid increases our pupils’ opportunities to develop skills beyond the classroom that will help prepare them for life beyond school. Not to mention they also have lots of fun!

Tuesday 10 June 2025 Drama at Perseid During the Summer Term, KS3 will have the opportunity to watch the KS4 drama production and will be continuing to develop their drama skills through their understanding of World Literature using the text ‘Matilda’. They will use the KS4 production as an inspiration to develop props, character understanding and take part in role play. The students gained confidence with their performance skills and increased their teamwork by participating whilst working alongside or with peers within the drama games.

Friday 6 June 2025 Arts at Perseid The Creative Arts supports all pupils to develop their skills in drama, dance, art and music. The Arts are taught both as a separate subject, and used as a teaching method in other subjects areas. The curriculum ensures that pupils have access to a broad and diverse culture.

Wednesday 4 June 2025 Music at Perseid Pupils continue to participate in the Mini Musicians programme funded by Merton Music Foundation, Roehampton University and Merton Council. This week Adam Ockelford from Roehampton who is the Professor of Music running the research project and expert in SEND Music visited pupils in Tiger class and observed a session. He was very impressed with how well the pupils played, sang and their general level of musicianship. Some pupils will take part in an end of project celebration with other schools across the Borough.

Monday 2 June 2025 Online Safety and PSHE Staff ensure pupils follow the ‘Keeping Safe Online’ posters displayed around the school, with all staff adhering to this guidance too. School computers are equipped with website filters, and teachers and support staff closely supervise pupils’ online activity to ensure they are accessing safe, appropriate and only meaningful websites that have been reviewed by teachers prior to the learning session. When computers are used for leisure activities, an adult is always present to offer support and supervision. Staff know to report any websites which we do not deem appropriate. Additionally, all staff are expected to close computers when not in use to maintain safety.

Monday 19 May 2025 Staff Blog: May Each month, a member of our team at Perseid contributes to our staff blog, sharing with our community different aspects of the Perseid School experience, ranging from teaching practise, therapies, the importance of enrichment and strategies used every day within the school.
